Katie Couric – STFU

Once upon a time, in a land that no longer exists, there was a thing called “an unbiased press.”  What that meant was that the press would report fairly and honestly about any and all newsworthy events.  In that way, the citizens of the land that no longer exists could read an unbiased account of what went on, then make up their own minds about how they felt about it.

It was a matter of honor back in those days, for the press to report factual information to the public.  They felt that it was their duty to be apart  from the news.  They believed with all of their being that only by staying apart could they honestly and fairly report events.

That land that no longer exists is gone in part because people like Katie Couric, a pseudo-news person, felt that is was her business to make personal comments about political figures.  It was a sad day when she opened her mouth and failed miserably at what should  have been her job.

There were those people who said that Katie Couric was just a talking head, that all she did was read what was written down for her.  There were others who said that she got all cock-sure because she had one good moment in an interview.  But most people understood that Katie could feel herself on the downhill slide that comes for all female talking heads when they aren’t as cute and sassy as they used to be, and she needed to BE the news more than she needed to REPORT the news.

As a result of people like Katie Couric and her ilk, the land that no longer exists fell.  It used to be a great land.  It used to be a brave land.  It used to be a strong land.  Now you have to be careful who you listen to because even the “fair press” has an agenda.

Katie Couric- STFU.  Either BE a reporter, or be something else and then run your mouth.  Stop trying to make yourself feel younger and cuter by spouting off like a twit, when it’s supposed to be your job to “report” the news.  The press is supposed to hold themselves to a higher standard.  Go join the National Enquirer if you want to act like that.

    Ain’t it the truth?

Asked to give a toast before the prestigious New York Press Club, John Swinton, the former
Chief of Staff at the New York Times, made this candid confession [it’s worth noting that Swinton was called “The Dean of His Profession”
by other newsmen, who admired him greatly]:”
There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell the country for his daily bread. You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press. We are the tools and vassals of the rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance.
Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes. “

  3. you know, I thoroughly agree with you … and that’s why it turns my stomach when I turn on FOX news … the Katie Couric ilk have their fellow ilk at the other end of the spectrum… the sean Hannities, et al .. who have already started blaming an incoming administration for the economic problems … I pounded in signs for John McCain back in 1985…his first term in the senate, .so i’m no left wing fruit loop….I chaired our local republican party for a short while…. Much as other aspects of our American lives have changed, the press has failed miserably to do exactly as you suggest … report objectively, without preconceived notions, so that an informed electorate can make it’s own, best judgement. Responsible voters are our only hope of avoiding another HEIST of our U.S. Treasury by cheney & bush types.

I never liked her much when she was cute and sassy. I don’t like her any better now that she isn’t. I agree- put a real news person behind that desk.
